Fifty Shades of Grey Parented by Blog Site

Sunday Grande: Fifty Shades of Grey

I know not how to start this somehow. Either because the last time I did a post  about my Sunday Grande with the touch of movie review was last two years ago, click me,or the fact that I had been AGAIN absent for an entire month.

Well. . . whichever way it is, I felt my guilt had devoured me little by little not to blog about the very recent movie of E.L. James, the Fifty Shades of Grey, since it both had and has been the very reason why this blog of mine was given birth and brought to life.

Spoiler Alert!!! No movie review in here, just how my V-day turned out.

Let's try to press the "time travel" button this time. If you notice, the very first blog I did publish was on reading - click me- of which houses my random thoughts about reading itself, which was then followed by this:

My Awakener : Fifty Shades Trilogy + Its History

. . . and then this:

Random Formula # 1: Highlighter + Book = ME (Poignant Lines From Fifty Shades Trilogy)

(Please have some time to click and read the highlighted links, *_^)

So, well. . . those reveal something about how my bookish self revived. Now to go back with what I have been babbling, hope I'm not baffling you ^_^, my conscience is not in its ease just to let the opportunity pass. Though, I've actually let the momentum pass, since I did procrastinate and became late again, here it goes.

I've been loco over this novel, ever since I've read it and believe me, I've read each book five times. HAHAHAHAH! Silly isn't it? but then who could resist such a handsome stalker, PLUS!!! I'm making my real Christian Grey in the person of Christopher Lim, whom Aries, my one true love baptized him as Boy Mcdo. (Psssshhhhhh! This is a silent shout out, my silence scream for my admiration to him *_*)

With my obsession of the books, of the trilogy itself, I've shared it to the people whom I am close with, Ms. Mae, my "classmates" Keziah and Deborah. And to be honest. I was actually expecting to watch the movie with them. But due to some schedule conflict none of us went together to watch the movie. I was bit sad for I thought I will never be able to see Christian's stalking prowess. However, here's one great deal, my nephew who happened to be one of my students before - click me- way back in my teaching years in MUHS sent me this:

. . . an invite eventually came, though at first I hesitated for it's been  R-18, I got this as his response:

. . . and so I got the date with Mr.Grey , and Mr. Lim. ^_^

Credits to Jason for this photo ^_^

. . . as we watched the film, ask me how many times did I have it. THREE TIMES!!! because one of his classmates, my very beautiful Sofia went to catch up with us and since she wasn't able to watch it from the beginning and since Jason had to leave for their family dinner, I was left with her  and did the reviewing of the movie. Sad to say, we had no photo to be posted. My sister then came and, like Sofia, she came late and Sofia has to leave,I was still left and did  another preview of the movie. If you'll say it's a bbit crazy , I'll definitely agree.

. . . and ohhhh, I forgot to made mention it was Saturday. When Sunday came the next day precisely , I got another invite from my kikay girls, and so I had to watch the movie again TWICE. Now please do the Math. Good heavens!Yes I did watch the movie five times all in all. hahahah!

Sofia, Noiree, and Me
Eri, Janica, Noiree, Sofia and I inside the movie house

. . . after the movie watching we headed right straight to Farron:

. . . and had dinner in McDo, sad to say my Christian Grey wasn't there. *insert sad face here*

. . .to sum it all up, my Christian Grey experience may not be in the way I wanted it to be: a) spend with those I was eagerly shared the story, b) see Ian Somerhalder do the role, and c) get a photo with my Boy Mcdo, yet, it all turned out to be super well and priceless. Thanks to this bunch of kiddos. ^_^

Manuscript Found in Accra by Paulo Coelho

Bookish Mardi: A Book Review of Manuscript Found in Accra
by Paulo Coelho

"The great wisdom of life is that we can be masters of the things that try to enslave us." - Paulo Coelho

I'd like to start this review by telling you guys I have always been a spoiled girlfriend. I don't know why and how it started I just accidentally noticed that whenever I'm liking or into something, my man all the time makes all the possible ways to get my heart's little desire. May it be a surprise or not, he loves watching my face turning red brought about by intense happiness. Though I have been pampered with these material things I'm getting without me asking from him, I make it sure his being a giver will not be abused.

So when we were celebrating our nth monthsary ( ^_^ ) a delivery arrived into the doorway of our house. I was quite glad the moment I unraveled the package for it contained a Forever21  lace long sleeve and a book by one of my personal favorite authors. He truly knows the way to my heart. Lucky gf, ain't I? ^_-

Book Review

The very first time I took grip of the book, to admit, I wasn't quite amazed of it, nonchalant I'd become instead. The title didn't catch my attention plus it's so small, super small. My books are usually big, heavy, and thick, yet this one's just the smallest and the thinnest I ever had.  Plus, the pages are so dark for a paperback. Indeed, 'twas ugly by appearance. Though it's from Paulo C. I didn't read the book right away. It took me months as usual before I fin'lly read it, due also to the books stacked in shelf  which are to be read. So I placed it right at the bottom part of those unread books.

Fast forward to the day I got the juncture to  read it, I can only think of this very common quote people usually use, "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and well add to it its appearance, such a cliche, isn't it? The book, though minute in size contains too many substantial content. Never had I thought of a book as small and as thin as this can contain the most heaviest notion on earth ever existed.  It doesn't just a mere fiction. It is a by-product of  well-thought topics from a well-experienced author.

The book talks not just a single topic at hand. It doesn't just talk about philosophy, science, math and literature. It talks all those subtantial subjects/topics under the sun down from friendship, frienemy, marriage, up to death and many others. Beauty, happiness, giving up, winning, acceptance, loyalty, fear, bravery, solitude, love, hatred, elegance, name it and the book will surely have something for you not just to ponder but  to  touch your soul and influence your outlooks in life,

It's a book full of not just random musings but well-organized pensive thoughts on everything you needed which will surely have a life enhancing impact to the readers, as it did to me.

As a whole, it taught me a lot of things of which if I have to enumerate them will surely wont finish. The list is indeed endless. But one thing I'd like to share, this little book made me realize that in this multi-faceted life, we need not to grieve with  what has been lost but to find joy in sorrows. It inspired me not to dwell on the many negative repercussions but to always look at the brighter side of the coin. Because life at all isn't about how we did not fail but it's more on being able to stand up after we fell.

So to you guys, who've been looking for not only a book/story but also a compilation of pieces of advice, I highly recommend this for you to read. ^_^

"What is true to love is also true in war."

"Wait patiently for the right moment to act.
Do not let the next opportunity slip by you.
Take pride in your scars.

"Scars speak more loudly than the sword that caused them."

"Defeat are those who never fail."

"The act of discovering who we are will force us to accept that we can go further than we think. And thst frightens us."

"In solitude, they will learn that saying no does not always show a lack of generosity, and that saying yes is not always a virtue."

". . . in cases of unrequited love there is always the hope that one day it will be requited."

"Nothing in this world is useless in the eyes of God. Not a leaf from a tree falls, not a hair from your head, not even an insect dies because it was no use. Everything has ahas a reason to exist."

"Difficulty is the name of an ancient tool that was created purely to help us define who we are."
". . . nature longs for beauty and is satisfied only when beauty can be exalted,"

"Outer beauty is inner beauty mae visible, and it manifests itself in the light that flows from our eyes."

"Beauty is present in all creation, but the dangerous fact is that, because we human beings are often cut off from the Divine Energy, we allow ourselves to be influenced by what other people think. We deny our own beauty because others can't or won't recognize it. Instead of accepting who we are, we try to imitate what we see around us. We try to be what other people think of "pretty" and, little by little, our soul fades, our will weakens, and all the potential we had to make the world a more beautiful place withers away.

"We forget that the world is what we imagine it to be."

"We stop being the moonlight and become, insteadm the pool of water reflecting it."

"It is the imperfect that astonishes and attracts us."

"A sunset is always more beautiful when it is covered with irregularly shaped clouds, because only then can it reflect the many colors out of which dreams and poetry are made."

"Like the sun, life spreads its light in all directions.'

". . . ever since your goal found out that you were traveling toward it, it has been running to meet you."

"In order to hear Love's words, you must allow Love to approach."

"True Love, however, is the love that sedices and will never allow itself to be seduced."

"Love is an act of faith, not an exchange."

A rose dreams of enjoying the company of bees, but none appears. The sun asks:
"Aren't you tired of waiting?"
"Yes" answers the rose, "but if I close my petals, I will wither and die."

"Our great goal in life is to love. The rest is silence."

". . . with every farewell comes a hidden place."

"It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

"We sing more loudly when the person we love is far away and whisper poems when he is near, even if he doesn't listen and pays no attention to either songs or whispers."

". . .the great wisdom of life is that we can be masters of the things that try to enslave us."

"We must love. I am not speaking only of love for another person. Loving means being open to miracles, to victories, to everything that happens each day that was given us to walk upon the face of the Earth. Our soul is governed by foru forces: love, death, power and time."

"We are all prisoners of the sand of time, and we have no control over them."

"Loyalty has its roots in respect, and respect is the fruit of love."

"When you forgive, the person who insulted you feels humbled in his error and becomes loyal."

"The most destructive of weapon is not the siege of cannon, which can wound a body and demolish a wall. The most terrible of all weapons is the word, which can ruin a life without leaving a trace of blood, and whose words never heal."

"Let us be masters of our tonguesand  not slaves of our words. Even if words are used against us let us not enter the battle that cannot be won."

"Loyalty is a pearl among grains of sand, and only those who really understand its meaning can see it."

"The truly wise do not grieve over the living or the dead."

"Man is not defined by earthly battles, because just as the wind changes direction, so do luck an victory.Today's losers will be tomorrow's winner, but in orde for that to happen, combat must be embraced with honor."

"We will have to face many adversaries in our lives, but the most difficult to defeat will be the ones we fear."

"We will always meet rivals in everything we do, but the most dangerous are those we believe to be our friends."

"Good friends are like a fine wine."

"We all suffer when our dignity is attacked or witnessed, but the greatest pain will be caused by those we thought were examples to be followed."

"If someone confronts you over idea or ideals, step up and accept the fight, because conflict is present in every moment of our lives and sometimes it needs to show itself in the broad light of day."

"Fight only with a worthy opponent, and not with someone who uses trickery to prolong a war that is already over, as does sometimes happen."

"The enemy is not the person standing before you, sword in hand. It is the person standing next to you with a dagger concealed behind his back."

"Therefore, your enemies are not the adversaries who were out there to test your courage. They are the cowards who were put there to test your weakness."

The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

Bookish Mardi: A Book Review of "The Longest Ride" by Nicholas Sparks

"Trust people, until they give you a reason not to."

It's undoubtedly undeniable that Nicholas Sparks is one among my personal favorite authors. He has the most space in my shelf since I have been collecting his books as well. So when he updated his status via FB which stated that his latest novel had finally been released, euphoric I've become. It was exactly the 17th day of September 2013 when the eagerness and giddiness collided within me. It was the same day I felt I badly needed to travel from the previous school I was working going to any neighboring city which had the bookstore selling the book so I would be able to fall in line for it. However, reality sank in when a student came inside our faculty room reminding me of my next literature class. I then realized I actually didn't have the time to read it yet and considering the fact that the book on that day wasn't available yet, everything became vague. Mind setting was all I did so as for me to be able to set aside that intense flame burning within me to touch and read the book.

I kept my the feeling until months had passed, the next time I realized, it's already been December. The month of such a jocund season, Christmas. Since it's also my birth month, one of my favorite students, Janica a sophormore, asked me through her classmate as to what I would like to recieve or what book would I like to received. I made mention of it but not expecting her buying it for me. ^_^

Fast forward to the day I finally got the book, I was sent to cloud nine. Though I wasn't able to actually receive it on the month of December but instead of May, nine months after it was released,  my gratefulness was incomparable. Millions of thank to Janica, indeed! :)))

Book Review

The author introduces to us the story by using the point of view or Ira, a ninety one year old man who met a car accident. A man who had been holding and losing his consciousness and was about to give up living but with the help of his dead wife's presence it enabled him to survive. His wife helped him to not lost his grip of his life by making him reminisce his World War days and how they met. Therefore, flashbacking's been so evident in the story.

Photo from web

The author does not only make use of one character's point of view, instead, four. Sparks makes use of the four main characters' insights. As you go through the story, each chapter is named after a character which signals you that, that particular chapter is that character's point of view. I find it unique, since it's the very first book I've read which has a style like such. However, if you are not following the story too well and if you are not familiar with how the author writes, you'll actually be confused, which I believe will just be diminished as you are to slowly unfold the story.

Sparks, as always, makes me love him even more by his works. Other than him being so poetic and literary prolific, his ability in writing billet-doux sensationally is one among the many characteristics  I just don't like but madly in love with about him. The love-letter writing is what I also look forward to from his books. And, as always, it was present in the novel, too. So, what more do you expect me to think? :)))

For those who love so much twists in a novel, spoiler alert!, this has none. However, it's still a good one for me since there was not much villains and the like present in the story. Hence, you'll find it great.

Nicholas Sparks, together with Ira, Ruth, Luke and Sophia taught me that we may never be able to know every single person around us, yet we are all together woven by just one Weaver. Whatever one's decision may be, will surely affect somebody else's. They have also made me realized that the most difficult situations we may be in at the present will harness the real us, making us the most brilliant diamond ever polished by trials which can make us become the better version of us. The better we become, the more we can continue making  the longest ride - our life - become ultimately extraordinary.  With this, I SALUTE YOU MR. SPARKS! *_^

"I know I'm not going to be able to change the world, but I think it's important to try to make a difference." - Mary Kate

"The world needs a little mystery." - Sophia

"I guess people tend to put their first  loves on pedestal, and in the beginning, I was no difference." - Sophia

"It's easy to joke when you don't care anymore. I'm not saying it didn't hurt me, because it did." - Sophia

"It was not the first kiss we'd ever shared, but in many ways, it had become my favorite if only because it happened when I needed it most, marking the beginning of one of the two most wonderful, and life-altering periods of my life." - Ira

"What I do know is that when I was sitting with you that night, I felt like God was telling me that I was doing the right thing." - Ruth

"She was always stronger and smarter and better at everything, and I think again that of the two of us, I made the better choice so long ago. I still don't know why she chose me. While she was exceptional, I was average, a man whose major accomplishment in life was to love her without reservation, and that will never change." - Luke

"It's strange, I think, the way our lives turn out. Moments of circumstance, when later combined with conscious decisions and actions and boatload of hope, can eventually forge a future that seems predestined."

"You can still live without me." - Ruth

"What every last person failed to see was that it was not about money; it was about the memories they held." - Ira

"I'm not making a mistake. And I'm not going to get hurt." - Sophia

"I know how much you care about him. But your lives aren't just on different tracks, they're on different continents. And that meand you are going to have to watch your heart from here on, because if you don't, it's going to end up breaking into all sorts of pieces." - Marcia

"Do not worry about tomorrow until you have to."

"I wish I had the talent to paint the way I feel about you, for my words always feel inadequate. I imagine using red for your passion and pale blue for your kindness; forest green to reflect the depth of your empathy and bright yellow for your unflagging optimism. And still I wonder, can even an artist's palette capture the full range of what you mean to me.'' - Ira

"As your husband, I can listen and hold you; and kiss your tears away." - Ira
